What’s wrong with dogs? Dog is only a very common specie on the earth. No matter how common they are, no one can deny their qualification to be a legal member of the earth.

During the long history of their existence, up till now, they seldom commit evil behaviors, in reverse; they threw themselves in building a harmonious society on the earth.

However, which is beyond our imagination, someone is trying to deny their contribution, and even attempts to clear away them from the planet.

There is an appalling case of dogs-killing.

From July 25^th to 30^th 2006, there were more than 50’000 dogs cruelly getting slaughtered in county Mouding of Yunnan province. It is reported that only the dogs used for public security purpose fortunately survived. This disaster began with 3 people’s death from hydrophobia. For the   general security, the governors decided to kill every dog in this county. Then slaughter started.

Slaughter of dogs is everywhere, in the street, in the corner even in the homes of pet keeper. It makes no difference from banditry.

Topics in Focus, which was acknowledged to be the most honest program in China, started to cheat the mass on that issue, the problem of keeping pets. In this episode of program, it said that too many pets in the urban area had become a serious problem. Government and citizens should rise to this occasion.

It said keeping pets jeopardized the security of public health. It even lists some figures. In Beijing, more than 80’000 people get injured by the dog. In last 7 months, Shanghai has a increase of 20% in the same case. An 80’000 is a large amount. However, did those people (who list these figures) know? In 2001, we had 300 died in traffic accidents everyday in China. The government had never made the policy to control the madly increasing vehicle, but they brought the policy which dedicated to maltreat the dogs into effect.

Actually, dogs have no intention to attack human beings. It is we who enrage them intentionally, and then get punished by nature. Dogs have no intention to jeopardize the security of public health.

In this program, there is another joke. Dogs again jeopardized the social harmony. What? Dogs can jeopardize the social harmony. They must overestimate the ability of this very common animal. Will snarl of dogs dramatically change the rate of GDP growth? Will the excrement of dogs drop the GNH (Gross National Happiness)? And, will dogs affect our efforts to build a harmonious society?  Definitely not.

I saw people cry, when their dogs was captured by police and tortured to death. I saw doggies’ tears when they face a vicious policeman waving wand before them. How villainous are they! It is they who really harm the harmony.

From my point of view, this problem originates from the improper policy made by the government previously. In China, pet keepers have to pay extremely large amount of money to get their pet registered. It is not easy for the average citizen in this country, especially for the disabilities who have to rely on the dogs to guide them. This policy made majority of dogs go unregistered. So when the canine madness comes, the government suddenly gets rather nervous and started to do evil to dogs. We get millions dogs killed every year; however, is the disease get controlled? Obviously, it still goes unsolved.

Our government should take actions, not the actions to slaughter dogs but to get all of them registered and immunize them. That’s the way.

I pray for every innocent dog who gets killed in the savage slaughter in China. I sincerely hope human beings can get along with animal everlastingly.
